Second Coming

That Day is Coming … Hallelujah!

by TerryLema December 25, 2020

There is coming a day, a glorious day, when the night will disappear.

“The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.” [Revelation 21:23 HCSB]

There is coming a day, a glorious day, when there will be no more pain, no more tears.

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” [Revelation 21:4 HCSB]

There is coming a day, a glorious day, when sin and temptation and the enemy of our soul will be no more.

“And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. 10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where[b] the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” [Revelation 20:9b-10 HCSB]

I long for that day. I long to see my loved ones who have gone to that glorious day and now abide in the Presence of God. I long to see the day when death is banished, when sorrow will not even be remembered!

“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming quickly.’ Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” [Revelation 22:20-21 HCSB]

For now, we wait for that day. We celebrate the First Coming of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ and earnestly look to the skies for His Return. Amen & Amen.

His First Coming Promises His Second …

by TerryLema December 24, 2020

O Holy Night, O Night Divine. That glorious night when Christ came the first time to redeem His own. It changed everything!

The angel who appeared to Joseph set the parameters for Christ Jesus’ first coming, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” [Matthew 2:21 HCSB]

God sent His Son to save us from our sins, from the death and punishment that our sins deserved. He brought grace and truth to us. He took our punishment. He suffered our death. He rose that we might have life and that life more abundant.

No matter how many times I write these things, no matter how many times you read these things, they still have an amazing and marvelous hold on our hearts. I will never grow tired of hearing them.  It is not all about the new things I can find in the Scriptures, it is about those old Gospel truths of our salvation which thrill my soul.  Tell me again and again about what my Savior has done for me!

But there is another truth, a promise that also thrills my soul – that is, Christ is coming again. He promised He would come back for His own. [John 14:3b HCSB]

This time when He appears it will not be about sin – that issue has already been settled. This time it will be about taking us home to the Father’s House.

“We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” [1 Corinthians 15:51 HCSB]

“Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” [1 Thessalonians 4:17 HCSB]

Are you listening for the trumpet?

Just in Case!

by TerryLema May 6, 2020

“We are living in the End Times.” We certainly can agree that we are closer to the End Times than any other generation. (Matthew 24, 25)

“Jesus is coming back.” Yes, He is. (This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven. Acts 1:11)

“Every eye will see Him.” Right on! (He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him. Rev 1:7)

“When Jesus comes, He will take us to be with Him forever.” Amen, I can hardly wait! (For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18)

“We will go with Him at His Second Coming, but there is no Rapture.” Right. Wait! Whoa?! What?!

What if there is no Rapture? What if we must go through the Tribulation?

I personally am not sure about the Rapture. I hope there is one, but I see so many suffering and being martyred for their faith around the world and I wonder why we Americans think we will avoid that – that we will simply all disappear before it gets “really” bad.

I remember some great advice, “Hope for the Best, but Prepare for the Worst.” We have been incredibly good at hoping for the best – maybe now we should start preparing for the worst…just in case.

Just-Like-That!

by TerryLema May 5, 2020

The last day of April was sure a wild one in the Treasure Valley in Idaho. It began with a beautiful sunny sky, warm temperatures (the day before had been downright hot!). I was not paying much attention to the weather, however. My attention was focused on waiting for the Governor to affirm that Stage One of opening Idaho back up would begin on May 1 and churches would be allowed to gather, granted with certain protocols in place. (He did, and we are on May 10.)

All that changed early afternoon. A strong wind began, then the sound of distant thunder was heard. Within minutes the rain started. Then it got even more intense. Wind speeds accelerated, the patio cover began to rattle, lightning started and thunder followed right after, and the rain turned into a downpour (in some areas wind gusted to 65 miles per hour, tornado warnings went into effect, and ping-pong size hail fell).

I sat in my chair watching the trees bend and listening to the sounds of a violent storm, and I thought how quickly everything can change.

Shortly before His death, Jesus’ disciples asked Him about what we now call “The End Times.” They wanted to know what would transpire during those final days. Jesus gave them the signs that would be there. You can read those things in Luke 21. Then He told them that when they saw those things happening, they were to “look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draws near.” [v28]

1 Corinthians 15:51 uses the term “twinkling of an eye” to describe the change that will happen when that “trumpet sounds.”

Peter tells us that the “Day of the LORD will come like a thief” and the “heavens will disappear with a roar.” [2 Peter 3:10]

The point is that everything can change in a moment. Just as that storm changed a beautiful day into a terrifying one in a matter of seconds; so the LORD can return JUST-LIKE-THAT!

Waiting for HIM

by TerryLema April 16, 2020

Jesus told us when we prayed, we were to seek God’s Kingdom … “Your Kingdom Come.”

He also told us this was our priority in Matthew 6:33. We must surrender every desire, every need, every ambition to the goal of seeking His Kingdom and His righteousness in us. We must allow God’s kingdom in us to change us through the Power of His Holy Spirit, or our testimony will be worthless.

There is a second part to praying “Your Kingdom Come” and that is to live each day in the awareness that it might be the day Jesus comes back for His own. The Book of Revelation is all about the return of our LORD Jesus as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

We have a hope beyond measure. Our LORD who came once to save us has vowed to come again. “Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” [Heb 9:28 NIV]

That’s His promise. The final salvation where sin and evil are forever banished from God’s Creation and His Eternal Rule is set in place, never to be challenged again. We are to be alert and seek His Coming. Revelation 22:20 contains both His promise “Surely I am coming quickly,” and our prayer “Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” [NKJV]

Every morning when we arise and every night when we close our eyes in sleep we should pray, “Amen. Even so, come, LORD Jesus!”

Let it be today. Amen
