Technically (or astronomically) fall begins this year September 22 around 8:04PM, but meteorologists call September 1 the first day of fall for statistical and reporting purposes. I’ll go with the meteorologists since my favorite time of the year is autumn.
There is something about leaving the heat of summer and emerging into the coolness of autumn that always reminds me of the graciousness of our God. I know that probably sounds strange.
In Exodus 33 and 34, Moses interceded with God for the sake of God’s people. One of the things Moses asked was to see the glory of God, and God responded that He would hide Moses in the cleft of a great rock and would pass in front of Him.
As God did so, He declared: “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.”
Our God is gracious. We have been taken out of the “heat” of sin, wickedness and rebellion, and He has hidden us in the “coolness” of That Great Rock, Christ Jesus our LORD.
He did that because He is abounding in love for us. So, every year when we are taken out of the “heat” of summer season and emerge into the “coolness” of autumn I am reminded of “The Lord, the LORD,” who is compassionate, gracious, loving, forgiving, and faithful. Amen&Amen
