The third chapter of Paul’s second letter to Timothy is so relevant for these end times. It is divided into two sections. The first half provides a description of the difficult atmosphere of the last days. The second half give us a picture of the struggles particular to the Christian life.
The chapter ends with the remedy to staying strong amid such things – knowing the Scriptures “which are able to give [us] wisdom for salvation.”
The final few verses tell us just how the Scriptures work at providing that wisdom. “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” [vs 16-17 HCSB]
As we study the inspired Word of God, we are taught, rebuked, corrected, and trained for righteousness. As such, we become complete in God and equipped for those good works He has already ordained for us to do. [Ephesians 2:10]
We must get into the Word of God, and we must let the Word of God get into us! It is vitally important that we don’t just pick and choose what we want out of the Word but instead allow the fullness of Scripture to complete us for all God has chosen for us in our walk with Him.
