I brought home a nugget from the message at church last Sunday. It is one that I have been thinking more about over the last few days.
Most of us would agree that if we are not in the “last of the last days,” we are certainly closer to them than any generation. Most of us, when we think about the last days think about the warning Paul gave to his son in the faith, Timothy.
“In the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good.” [2 Timothy 3:1-3 NLT]
But that is the world’s portion. Pastor Paul reminded us that as children of God, we have a different portion.
“‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants—men and women.’” [Acts 2:17-18 NLT]
Our portion is not found in what is going on in the world. Our portion is found in what God is doing in His people. It is those things that we should be looking for … and those things that should be found in us.
We should see God pouring out His Spirit. We should see prophecies, visions, and dreams. We should see men and women, young and old, responding to God’s Spirit in wonderful ways.
Let’s make sure we are looking for (and abiding in) the portion that is ours!
