The Living WORD

by TerryLema February 7, 2022

Hebrews 4 opens with a passage on unbelief and the warning that we are not to let a pattern of disobedience govern our lives. The writer reminds us that the written Word of God is living and powerful.  It (notice that pronoun) is effective in discerning the things that are in our hearts and how different they are from our outward actions.

Then the writer of Hebrews suddenly switches pronouns in the following verse. “No creature is hidden from Him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account.” [Hebrews 4:13 HCSB]

The pronoun shifts from the impersonal (it) to the personal (Him). Unbelief is not only detected by the written Living Word of God, but also by the Living LORD. Nothing escapes His notice.

Our Living LORD is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. He is constantly aware of all that is going on in the cosmos.  He knows our hearts. He knows if there is real faith there or if there is only an intellectual consent to facts. He knows if the heart matches the words and actions of our life.

It is to Him we will give an account of our lives one day. We may bluff our way through life now, but there will be nothing hidden from Him when we stand in His presence. The entire world may regard us as marvelous pillars of faith, but our LORD will not judge as the world judges. What we are will be made known.

I cannot imagine anything worse than trying to answer the question “Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say?”  [Luke 6:46 HCSB]

Thankfully, however, the writer of Hebrews does not leave us there, he goes on to provide two marvelous hopes. (Tomorrow)

Sleep, Blessed Sleep …

by TerryLema June 2, 2021

I do not sleep well. There are multiple reasons why. I know the medication I take for the auto-immune diseases can often produce insomnia. There is also the fact my sleep is frequently invaded by pain. But I think the worst thing is the inability to roll over (often a symptom of the disease). Because I cannot roll over, I must sit up and then change positions. I do that often during the night, more often on nights when I am struggling with pain and trying to find a comfortable position.

To me, uninterrupted sleep is a memory from the past … as well as a desire for the future!

I am blessed, however, in the middle of the night when the aches are winning and sleep is elusive. I am blessed because I know the LORD is not asleep either.

Psalm 121 describes “The LORD our Protector,” and it promises us that our Wonderful LORD will never be slumbering when we need Him.

“He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber. Indeed, the Protector of Israel does not slumber or sleep.”    [Psalm 121:3-4 HCSB]

Whether I am having a good night of sleep or one where I am awake much of it, the LORD will not be slumbering but watching over me. Whether I am having a good day or one that is not, I need not worry, the LORD is not asleep but watching over me.

The LORD is my Protector, he neither slumbers nor sleeps. Hallelujah!

THE LORD

by TerryLema April 29, 2021

How often have we studied or heard messages on Psalm 23. Most of us have it memorized. We hear it often. When I awoke this morning, the first verse was running through my mind.

“The LORD [YAHWEH, JEHOVAH] is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.” [HCSB]

David lacks nothing because he has the LORD.

YAHWEH, JEHOVAH

Jehovah Nissi – The LORD My Banner

Jehovah-Raah – The LORD My Shepherd

Jehovah Rapha – The LORD That Heals

Jehovah Shammah – The LORD is There

Jehovah Tsidkenu – The LORD Our Righteousness

Jehovah Mekoddishkem – The LORD Who Sanctifies You

Jehovah Jireh – The LORD Will Provide

Jehovah Shalom – The LORD Is Peace

Jehovah Sabaoth – The LORD of Hosts

In the OT a name is so much more than a name – it is an identity. God reveals Himself to us through His names. When David said the LORD is his Shepherd, he would be saying that all God is, all He has identified Himself to be, provides all David needs … so that he lacks nothing.

The LORD is our Shepherd. We lack nothing.

Psalm 148:13: “Let them praise the name of the LORD: for His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven.”
