King of Kings

The Worst Form of Government

by TerryLema November 20, 2022

“Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.”

That quote is often attributed to Winston Churchill. There are various thoughts on why he said that, and even what he meant when he said that.

While the USA is often called a democracy, technically we are not. We are a democratic republic, which is a bit different. We elect representatives to do the will of the people. Sometimes they do what we want and sometimes they don’t.

We just had a mid-term election. Lately, watching these elections is almost like going to the circus. There are things going on in any number of rings, high flying acts, elephants and donkeys performing tricks, and of course, bring in the clowns.

Still, democracy is considered the best form of government over the others. But is it?  I think I am more inclined to a different kind. One described in Psalm 47.

“Sing praise to God, sing praise; sing praise to our King, sing praise! Sing a song of wisdom, for God is King of all the earth.  God reigns over the nations; God is seated on His holy throne.” [Psalm 47:6-9 HCSB]

Our God is King of all the earth. He reigns over every nation, over every form of government. He is seated on His Holy Throne, and no one can unseat Him. He cannot be voted out. He cannot be overthrown. The will of the people will not overrule Him. He is King. HE IS KING OF KINGS!

Thank you, LORD. Today I will focus on my God the King, seated on His holy throne. I will praise you because You reign forevermore! Amen

Friend

by TerryLema August 24, 2022

When David was old and advanced in years (as the Scriptures record in the closing chapters of 1Chronicles), he set out preparations for the Temple of the LORD that Solomon would build. He made plans and accumulated much of the materials that would be used.

He also set up the Divisions of the Levites and Priests. He named those who would be musicians, gatekeepers, treasurers, and other officials. Just before the Scriptures record his commission to Solomon, David lists those closest to him.

“Ahithophel was the king’s counselor. Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.” [1 Chronicles 27:33 HCSB]

Most of us know little about Hushai the Archite except that through it all, he remained loyal to David. When Absalom, David’s son attempted to grab the kingdom for himself, it was the counsel of Hushai to the usurper Absalom that saved the kingdom for David. [2 Samuel 16-17]

As I came across Hushai’s name in those final chapters of 1Chronicles, and read David’s description of him, I was reminded of something Jesus said to His own.

“I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from My Father.” [John 15:15 HCSB]

To be a friend of the king. I cannot imagine anything more precious or breathtaking. I thought of that Book of Life, when the names of the redeemed are read, that perhaps beside each name will be written, “the king’s friend.”

One Person Can Change the World

by TerryLema March 30, 2022

As I watch the reports and images coming out of Ukraine, I cannot help but wonder what Putin was thinking when he decided one day to invade a neighboring country? What prompts a man to order the destruction of hospitals, neighborhoods, schools, theaters? I also wonder why the people of his country cannot see what he is doing. How can they be so deceived to believe that these evil acts are justified?

One man, one day, decided to destroy his neighbor and he changed the world. History has proven over and over that one man can change the world. (Ah, you are reading between the lines and know where I am going!)

One Man not only changed the world, He changed eternity. He works where no other man can work, in the hearts of men and women.

He stands at the apex of history. Everything that occurred before His appearance pointed toward it. Everything that has happened since His appearance looks back at it.

Now we wait for that final declaration of God when the LORD Christ Jesus shall return, and the kingdoms of this world become the Kingdom of our God. Sometimes it is good to remind ourselves of that when we see the evil of this world flourish.

“Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and He judges and makes war in righteousness. His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns were on His head. He had a name written that no one knows except Himself. He wore a robe stained with blood, and His name is the Word of God. The armies that were in heaven followed Him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. A sharp sword came from His mouth, so that He might strike the nations with it. He will shepherd them with an iron scepter. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
