Jesus Love Me

Amid the Struggle

by TerryLema January 23, 2022

I came back from my walk one day last week.  I was tired from the walk, tired of sore knees and sore back and sore neck, tired of having to struggle so hard to gain back the strength and stamina I lost over the last three years. So much of life is a struggle. Whether we are young or growing old, male or female, rich or poor, there are enough struggles in this life for all of us.

My playlist was still playing on my phone as I sat in my big lounge chair to rest a bit. I put my head back just as “Jesus Loves Me” by Marshall Hall started. I just sat there and let the words of the song flow over me, nourishing my soul. I was reminded that through every struggle, through every difficulty, and when life is not fair, still Jesus loves me.

“Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong. They are weak, but He is strong.”

“Jesus loves me, He who died. Heaven’s gates to open wide. And He will wash away all our sins, and let His little child come in.”

Jesus loves me. Those words are so simple and yet … they may be the strongest, most glorious, words in the history of the cosmos. Jesus loves me, even though I do not deserve that love!

“Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.”

I’ve published this link before, but if you are struggling, child of God, take a minute and let the words of this song just wash over your heart and soul.  Let the Spirit of God nourish your soul as you listen.

Little Ones to Him Belong …

by TerryLema December 16, 2020

I love the music of Christmas … not just the carols or the modern songs … but the hymns, choruses and songs that tell of the reasons for Christ’s coming.

One of the most precious of all is the simple song, “Jesus Loves Me,” that we have taught our children to sing.

My favorite version is sung by Marshall Hall (link below). I have shared it before, and I never tire of watching the faces of the people in the audience as they listen to the words as they drive deep into their souls just how much God loves them.

Jesus loves me, He will die. Heaven’s gates He’s gonna open wide. And He will wash away all our sins. And let His little child come on in!”

“Yes, Jesus loves me.  Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me!  The Bible tells me so.

For God so loved us … “For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” [John 3:16 HCSB]

Christmas is so deep and yet so simple. God so loved us that He came.

As we stand before the manger this Christmas season, let us remember that.

Calls to Me in My Weakness

by TerryLema March 31, 2020

Music always ministers to my soul. I hear a song about my LORD and suddenly my heart soars into the heavenlies. It seems that no matter what is going on around me, when I hear a song about my Jesus, I meet Him there.

One of the simplest of songs is what we often consider a song for children. “Jesus Loves Me.”

Verse 1: Jesus loves me! This I know / For the Bible tells me so /Little ones to Him belong /They are weak, but He is strong. [Chorus] Yes, Jesus loves me / Yes, Jesus loves me / Yes, Jesus loves me /The Bible tells me so.

That song is more than just a children’s song … it is the very essence of our heart’s faith. Jesus, God’s very Son loves us so much He didn’t just agree to die for us, He chose to do so. Even in His darkest moment in the Garden of Gethsemane when He was so overwhelmed with grief that He felt like He would die right then, He reaffirmed His decision to obey the Father’s will and die for the Father’s children. [Mark 14:32-34]

When I am reminded of that love that calls to me in my weakness, I move once again into His embrace. There I am safe and am strengthened.

This morning, rather than listen to my words, listen to the words of “Jesus Loves Me.” My favorite rendition of this is by Marshall Hall. You may not like it; it is a bit different … but you can’t help but be touched deep in your soul by the audience’s reaction. It’s not a reaction to Marshall Hall’s singing. It’s a reaction to the realization that they are loved by a Wonderful Savior.
