Jesus is Walking By

by TerryLema March 1, 2021

Jesus and His disciples were headed to Jerusalem. He had already told them that death awaited Him there. The hour had come for darkness to reign, and for His own people to despise and reject Him as they called for His execution.

Mark tells us that as Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city of Jericho, “a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’”  [Mark 10:46-47]

Bartimaeus’ shouting got the attention of those around him, who promptly rebuked him and told him to be quiet. That response only got Bartimaeus to shout a little louder until finally the LORD Jesus heard him and stopped. Jesus commanded that they bring him closer.

Knowing that Jesus heard his shouts, and now wanted to speak to him, Mark says Bartimaeus threw his cloak aside, jumped to his feet and went to Jesus. When Bartimaeus met Jesus, his blindness became a thing of the past.

The world wanted Bartimaeus to shut up, but he would not. Instead of quieting, he grew louder. And because Bartimaeus would not quiet, healing came, light invaded his darkness.

Beloved, Jesus is walking by … are we going to remain quiet? Are we going to heed the world to quiet or will we follow the example of Bartimaeus and get even louder?

As for me … I’m shoutin’!  Savior do not pass us by! Amen

By His Wounds …

by TerryLema February 7, 2021

Recently, a local pastor and church had a healing service on a Sunday morning. Upon reading the announcement in Facebook, I commented that I wished I could be there, but I would be in my own church at that time. The pastor let me know they would pray for me … and let me know the following day that they prayed for me by name!  Last Sunday a visiting minister at The Way also prayed for me for healing.

I believe in Divine Healing. I know it happens because it happened in my family even before I surrendered my life to Christ. I heard doctors say, “we do not understand why there have been no more kidney infections,” when nothing changed except God’s intervention.

I know God can heal me. I am trusting that He will heal me. Isaiah 53:5 contains the promise of our healing in that marvelous chapter of the Suffering Messiah.

“But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on Him, and we are healed by His wounds.” [HCSB]

I know God can use medicine and science to heal, and I know that He can heal supernaturally.  I am claiming my physical healing at His Hand. I know that my healing may come in this life, and I know that if it does not, my healing is a certainty in the next life in His Presence.

My soul and spirit have been made alive by my Savior and LORD. Death has no hold on me. When I exit this life, by whatever means, I simply am escorted into the complete eternal life I now realize in part. I will then see not only my soul and spirit eternally alive, but I will be outfitted with a new body that will never experience pain or aging or death.

For now, I am claiming my physical healing each day. I am trusting Almighty God to complete His perfect plan in me. Amen!

Jesus Stopped

by TerryLema February 27, 2020

Mark 10 contains the story of blind Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus was sitting by the Jericho road begging when he heard a commotion—the sound of many people going by. He must have asked someone what was happening and was told that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. I’m sure Bartimaeus knew of Jesus and all the miracles He had been performing as He traveled the countryside, and in his desperation he begins to cry out to Him, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” [v47 NKJV]

Those around Bartimaeus told him to be quiet, but the more they tried to shush him, the more desperate and loud his cry becomes—until it reaches the ears of Jesus. Then the most marvelous thing happens, “Jesus stood still.” [v49]

Jesus stopped. He stopped. Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. The triumphal entry into the city was just ahead of Him, and the shadow of the cross was looming. He was about to finish the work of the Father that was the very meaning of His life, but one blind man with a need, sitting on the side of the road stopped Him in His tracks.

Jesus asked Bartimaeus what he wanted; Bartimaeus told Jesus he wanted to see. Then Jesus healed him. “Jesus said to him, ‘Go your way; your faith has made you well.’ And immediate he received his sight ….” [v52a]

Now I don’t know if Bartimaeus was blind from birth or lost his sight later in life. I do know that the first thing he sees now is the face of the Savior and his response is to follow Jesus on the road. [v52b]

Part of me wonders if Bartimaeus saw the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, and if he stayed in Jerusalem to see the crucifixion. Was he part of the 500 who saw Jesus following the Resurrection, or part of the group on the mountain watching Him ascend? I don’t know, but I’m hoping he was.
