I have a great curiosity at times. I wonder about a lot of things. Like, what will heaven be like? Will we be busy? Will we remember what it was like here on earth, only without the tears. Will we have opportunities to create, as well as praise? How will we recognize each other?
I think the Apostle John had a bit of curiosity also. He reminded us in his first letter: “Look at how great a love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children.” [1John 3:1 HCSB]
That is what we are now. John knows that, but then his curiosity gets the better of him and he begins to wonder what we will be like then.
“We are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him because we will see Him as He is.” [1John 3:2 HCSB]
John acknowledges that we do not have the full picture of what eternal life holds. We do not know everything; we only have glimpses. But John says we can know one thing … when Jesus appears, we will be like Him.
Romans 8:29 promises: “For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son ….” [HCSB]
As believers, we are to begin that conformation here in this life. As we grow and mature, we are to reflect Jesus more and more through every part of our life. As believers, John promises, that conformation process will have a glorious conclusion – when we see Him as He is we will be like Him.
Today: Thank you, Father, for that glorious conclusion!
