It is a Friday morning as I write this, and I am sitting here overwhelmed by the love of God. At the Bible Study last night, I was reminded that my greatest vision is to teach and exhort others about the love of God. When I think of what He is – Holy, Almighty, All-Knowing – I wonder how He can love such a one as I – unholy, weak, and often rebellious. Yet, the Scriptures declare repeatedly that I am loved by God.
I know His love is unconditional, steadfast, and faithful. I know He demonstrated that love while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). I know He has lavished His love upon us and calls us children of God (1John 3:1). I know His love endures forever (Psalm 136:26). And I know that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:37-39).
And I know that “God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son” and that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
I can easily believe about God loving “us” and “the world.” It is when I think about God loving “me,” (ME!) that I become overwhelmed. I know what I am in my heart, the part that no one sees but Him. And still, He loves me.
Knowing the individual, personal, love that God has for each one of us – for all the “me’s,” – changes us, restores us, empowers us, transforms us. Amen&Amen
