Christ-mas!

by TerryLema

I have seen memes lately reminding us to “put Christ back in Christmas.” That always makes we want to reply, “Christ has always been in Christmas. He is the center, the reason, the cause of its existence.” So, I have decided to do something to remind myself and others that Christmas is all about Christ. I am putting a hyphen in Christ-mas.

I looked up the meaning of the “mas” in Christ-mas. I got varying definitions. One is that it is short for “mass.” Another suggested it means “festival,” or “celebration.”

I like the last one. Christ-mas is a celebration of Christ. It is all about the Son of God who brought us grace and truth.

“Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” [John 1:17a]

He gave us the greatest gift ever given – a new relationship with God. No longer is God only our Creator, He is now our Father.

“But to all who did receive [Christ Jesus], He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name.”  [John 1:12 HCSB]

Believers, we are children of God. Jesus’ Birth (Christ-mas), Life, Death [Cross], Resurrection, Ascension provided us the greatest privilege ever given … a privilege that will last for all eternity.

So let’s celebrate Christ-mas!
