Every Tuesday night at The Way Assembly of God we have a prayer meeting. It lasts one hour. One hour each week out of 168 available hours. The goal is to pray for God’s Presence to manifest in our church, our community, our state, our nation. The desire is for the church to be on fire, full of power, and courageous to speak the truth. On most Tuesday’s, five people join me. Always the same five.
Don’t get me wrong, I so appreciate those five people. I am thankful that others are seeking the move of God in our midst alongside me. I still wonder why aren’t there more than five?
We are in a war. Yesterday we noted the struggle, the wrestling is not with people but with “the rulers of darkness of this age…spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” You can’t fight spiritual hosts in the heavenly places with earthly weapons. You must use spiritual ones and the biggest of these is prayer. [Ephesians 6]
Paul reminded the Ephesians that they had to “take up the whole armor of God, that [they] may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” [v 13 NKJV]
The Church’s armor is spiritual … comprised of truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, the Spirit of God and the Word of God. Than Paul commands us to pray “always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” He even throws in a little “perseverance” for good measure. [vs 14-20]
One hour a week out of 168 available hours. Doesn’t quite seem enough, does it?
